Spread the love, please share

A lot is going on in our world today, and anxiety disorders are on the rise! No matter how hard we try, there will be seasons of life that bring on anxious emotions. Here in this short post are 7 practical ways to overcome anxious moments.

I once heard peace described as worry replaced by prayers. Peace is handing over our cares and worries to the Lord and leaving them there with Him. I’m guilty of this prevalent practice of saying, Lord, I hand over my cares and worries to you, but in reality, I’m still very much worried and troubled about the same things I said I’ve handed over to Him.

What are the practical ways to overcome anxious moments ?

  1. Take a break !

Take time away from your regular activities. Our body and our mind have been designed to have quality breaks for optimum function . Taking regular breaks help to renew and rejuvenate the soul and body . A break can be few minutes, few hours, few days or few weeks. It’s not the length of the break, rather it’s the quality of the break.

2. Intentional physical activities

Staying physically active on a regular basis has both physical and mental benefits. It has a positive effect on brain functions, moods and emotions . It is a well known fact that being physically active can help to lift moods and anxiety. Discover ways to make regular exercise enjoyable and find what works for you. If you hate running don’t pick running as your means of staying physically active. I love walking , when I need to clear my head, I take a walk! It works!

3. Keep a book of memorable milestones

Keep a journal where you write a chronology of positive events of your life as far back as you can remember. Reflecting on past victories helps to overcome anxieties over similar or bigger issues . David recounted his victory over the bear and the lion before he faced the giant . David knew that if God delivered him from the bear and the lion , he will deliver him from the giant too .

4. Develop an attitude of gratitude

Be intentional about gratitude . Make a decision to be grateful even for the tiniest things of life . As you practice gratitude , worry will leave you. Rather than complaining , choose gratitude and you will find peace during moments of anxiety.

5. HOPE ! Don’t lose it, hold on tight to HOPE

Hope is important because once hope is lost , all is lost ! Everything in your life cannot go down at the same time, there is always ONE thing that is preserved . Focusing on that one thing helps to keep hope alive . In the midst of your difficult season , always look for that ONE thing .

6. See a specialist

Yes, sometimes anxiety may require medications or therapy. A specialist can evaluate and explore if there are any underlying medical conditions causing anxiety.

7. Finally, get in the Word

There are wonderful promises in the bible that can calm our anxious minds . When I feel anxious or worried , I look for encouraging scriptures , this FREE printable has a list of Bible verses on overcoming anxiety .

God already knew that we will go through our journey on earth with episodes of anxiety or low moods , so He made provision for us to apply the word and His word will always come true.

“I leave the gift of peace with you—my peace. Not the kind of fragile peace given by the world, but my perfect peace. Don’t yield to fear or be troubled in your hearts—instead, be courageous! ”

John 14:27
